  • line losses

power dissipated by the heating of cables (Joule effect). In France, the losses are estimated at close to 2.5% of total consumption, i.e. about 13 TWh/year.

  • LNG

liquid (or liquified) natural gas. When cooled to -161 °C (-258 °F), natural gas occupies 600 times less volume than in its gaseous state and weighs half as much as water, making it particularly suitable for transport by methane tanker and gas pipeline. Non-explosive in combination with the atmosphere, it is the most common form of natural gas.

  • load curve

represents the balance between power generation and consumption.
