The Rainmakers

Magazine alternatives n°14, 2nd quarter 2007

Author : Tim Flannery, Publications : Héloïse d’Ormesson
Publication date : 2006

In writing the history of weather over time, the author, a researcher with the zoology laboratory of the Australian Museum in Sydney, proposes an interesting essay on environmental geopolitics. His book is also a humanist pamphlet, and does not lack in poetic expression. "As long as it isn’t struck with anger and waging a storm above our heads, the atmosphere is not paid any attention,"< says Tim Flannery, author of over ten publications, who has been working for many years trying to make people aware of the need to protect the environment. In this book he tries to convince us to change our day-to-day behavior, to learn how to live, how to get about, and how to consume differently. The Rainmakers proposes simple and concrete solutions to combat global climate deregulation. "Do what he says, if not for the sake of prevention, by precaution," advises Yves Coppens, the paleontologist who prefaced the book.
