What is the largest wind farm in the world?
Alternatives magazine n° 11, 1st quarter 2006 Category: FAQ
Question:
Just a word concerning wind power. The largest wind farm in the world is twice as large as the figures you give in Issue 9 and EON will build it in the Thames estuary (1,000 megawatts of electricity).
Answer:
Right you are! Royal Dutch Shell, in association with other groups, including the German company EON, plans to build a wind farm with 270 wind turbines in the Thames estuary, for a power output of 1000 MWe. Shell and its partners hope to obtain government approval this year to start construction work in 2008 and complete it in 2011. But this project, to be located 20 km off the English coast and baptized London Array, has not yet received official authorization, which is why we didn’t mention it. We only refer to existing installations. But we’ll naturally keep our readers informed of its progress.
